Not far from Rapid City, SD, is Bear Butte, one of the most important of all Lakota sacred ceremonial sites.  Today Bear Butte needs protection from encroachments that threaten its sanctity.  There are several websites that you can go to, to learn all about it.  This star quilt top was made in honor and remembrance of Bear Butte.  Its beautiful star is centered on a sand colored background.

Some Lakota Indian people call Mother Earth "Turtle Island."  Diane's adaptation of the Lakota turtle star quilt has a border of friendship stars, and bands of color all around the whole.  Dark green, kelly green, sea green, and sunshine yellow are set on a white background, making this a very striking and unique quilt that's sure to attract many compliments.

Crow's Star Quilt

This star quilt was made for a young man at sundance whose last name is Crow, and it features a black crow in each corner of the center design, and a red medicine wheel on the upper and lower panels.  Fabric colors are the four altar colors of red, white, black, and yellow.  Tan, and a print fabric, complete the color palette.  A wide black border is on all four sides.  The center design measures 31 1/2" X 42", and the background color is pale yellow.  This quilt can be made into a queen/king size at 90" X 100" by adding another border around all edges.  The price will be the same.  The center design also works well for a crib size baby quilt.
